The Sunnybank Collies

Albert Payson Terhune (1872-1942) is most known for his writing as well as his large collie family. His novels were based on his collie friends, telling tales of adventure and character of the dogs. Terhune bred collies at Sunnybank Kennels, (Wayne, NJ) which is still open today and hosts events sponsored by the Collie Club of America. Terhune’s home was demolished over 30 years ago, but a museum, the trails, Champion Rock (burial ground for many of the collies), and a bronze memorial still remain.
